Summer Weddings

This has been an amazing summer so far.  I have been so busy that I sometimes loose track of the days.  I have lost so many days that I realized today it has been far too long since my last blog post and there have been some great weddings and some great new things on the horizon.

I have had the past 3 weeks off with no weddings, which has been a blessing on a number of levels.  The heat has been incredible here lately with no end in sight.  The highs have been in the 90’s almost every day and the heat index, which according to the weather geeks here, is how hot it feels to our skin.  Really?  Can’t we just say it’s like a blast oven out there and just move on from there.

Having the past couple of weeks off has allowed me to really focus on editing some of the weddings I’ve had this summer.  When I finished my last wedding in July I had a total of 7 weddings sitting on my desk that needed work. As I write this I can tell you that I have finished up 3 of those weddings, two have been shipped and one is with my final editor for her approval.  So, that leaves me with four on the desk and one this weekend.  That sounds like a lot, but to me it sounds like a lot of fun.

I wanted to post some new trailers I have finished up for the three weddings I have wrapped up.  The first one is a very sweet couple, Ashley & Daniel.  They have an amazing story to share.  They have been dating for right at 8 years.  They met on a mission trip and it seemed like love at first sight. There was one little bump in the road for these two; Daniel was 18 at the time and Ashley was 14.  Her parents were not too sure about letting their 14-year-old daughter go out with a collage freshman.  But, as always, loved prevailed and these two have been by each other’s side ever since that first night.  So here is their trailer:

There is also something really special coming very soon and I am just so excited to be a part of.  If any of you remember The Brides Lounge then you will love “Enchanted Details Event Boutique”.   The ladies at One Enchanted Evening are behind this wonderful endeavor.  “Enchanted Details” is going to be a one-stop shop for any bride in and around the East Tennessee area. Brides are going to be able to come in and browse through some of the top wedding vendors in and around Knoxville.  You will be able to look though florist, photographers, venues, rentals, caterers and the list just goes on and on.

By far one of the best assists at “Enchanted Details” will be the great people who are running the boutique.  Brenda, Lisa and all the gals at One Enchanted Evening are going to be around to help you with all your wedding decisions.  They are going to be able to match you up with the vendors that could best suit you and your needs.  But there are also going to be learning workshops where you’ll learn “How To’s” from some of the top professionals in the area.  There will also be “After Hours” events. This is going to be a venue for you to have your bridal shower, baby shower, family planning sessions, and so much more.

One of the other great things about “Enchanted Details” is it will provide a professional environment to meet with your vendors. Most vendors have a store front where you can go and meet with them at their shop, Florist, Dresses, Tux rentals are some examples.  But, many wedding vendors, myself included, work from our home.  It is much more cost effective for us to work out of our house and allows us to keep our prices completive.  The draw back to that is you may not feel comfortable meeting with a vendor at their house. So, that leaves us meeting with you at places like Starbucks or Panera Bread.  This is ok, but it is very difficult for vendors to show you their work plus we competing with the noise of the customers who are there.  “Enchanted Details” will offer several meeting areas that will allow you and the vendor to meet in a quite, relaxed environment.

There is so much more to “Enchanted Details” that I could fill pages and pages of blogs with everything.  I’m really excited to be a part of “Enchanted Details” and I know every bride in the East Tennessee area will be excited as well.

I was thrilled to find out today that I was STAR’s Spotlight Volunteer this month.  Here is the excerpt from their newsletter…

Santa lives at Dollywood in the summer

Today was the last day of school for my 10 year old daughter, KT.  She had a very crazy year, she changed schools late in the year but like the trooper she is, she never missed a beat.  So, as a reward for all her hard work this year we took her to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN today.  She loves going to the park for the rides. She loves roller coasters like no other little girl I know.  We had a great day at the park even though we didn’t stay the whole  day.  We got there about 12:30 and stayed until a little after 4 pm.  It was a bit warm and due to some of KT’s special needs, her body does not handle  extreme temperature swings. Now, 82 is not a high temperature, but her body will not produce sweat so she doesn’t cool her self off like others do.  So, we don’t stay long in higher temperatures.

On our way out of the park we passed a little drink stand and I saw Santa there.  I kid you not, there was a guy there that plays Santa at the park during the Christmas season.  Well, he was putting ice on the drinks and I thought, “there is Santa with a bunch of ice”.  I wonder if he brought some with him from the north pole.

We had a great day with KT today, we did Dollywood than hit a couple of the western shops in the area and got some new boots, a couple of belts for myself and KT and Leeann both got some new boots and a few other things.

I’m so proud of my little girl, she is such a hard working little girl, but she is also the apple of my eye.

Have a safe weekend.

Bridles & Blue Jeans

For the past several weeks, I have worked almost non-stop on a fund raiser promo video for STAR.  STAR (Shanghai-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding) holds a very special place in my heart.  Four years ago, after seeing the impact that Dolphin Assisted Therapy had on Katie, Leeann and I were looking for a program to get Katie into that would help her on a more consistent basis.  Katie has a long list of special needs, both medical and emotional.  We wanted to get her in a program that would build her confidence and her self-esteem and hopefully provide an extracurricular activity.

When we heard about the STAR program, we knew we had to get her in as soon as possible.  The only problem was there was a waiting list (there still is a list of 113 waiting to get in).  I think we called the STAR office about once or twice a month, we wrote letters to the Board of Directors and to the different staff members to see about getting Katie in.  It paid off and there was finally a opening that fit Katie and we were able to get her started with the winter session of 2006.

Katie instantly fell in love with the program.  We had never really seen her “look forward” to anything the way she looked forward to her weekly sessions at STAR.  She’s worked with Cocoa, Maria, Zipper and RB and she’s fallen in love with all of them.

I had volunteered a few times to help out with volunteer training videos or anything else they needed.  Well, three weeks ago, I was asked to put together the promo video for STAR’s Bridels & Blue Jeans.  This is their annual fundraiser. I was honored to be asked to produce this video and it has been a true labor of love for the past two weeks.  I have worked on this video everyday, every spare minute I could find.  I was worried about how it would play to a large group of people.

This video needed to tell the stories of the riders, the parents and the staff at STAR.  The story of how STAR had come to exist had been told for many years at this fundraising event. The amazing thing about this video is, it never felt like “work”.  The video mostly put itself together, I just put the pieces in place and the video did the rest all by itself.
It was a great success.  I don’t take the credit… but it was an amazing experience to help tell the story.

Note:  The little girl with the sign “I take meds every day to stay alive” is our Katie.  Also, the photo of the little girl with pigtails pulling up on the reins in her too!

Reasons to have a wedding video

Let’s play a game. Close your eyes if you will for a moment (just pretend because if you really close them you won’t be able to read this) and I want you to think back. Think way back to last year, 2007. Go back to this date in 2007 and I want you to think about what your were doing this time last year. Are you with me? Good, now tell me what you had for dinner that day.

Can’t do it can you? Of course not, most of us have a hard time remembering what we did last week much less what we had to eat a year ago. Think of all the phone numbers, fax numbers, passwords, PIN numbers we have running through our heads these days. I heard someone on the radio, the other day, say if was not for his cell phone he would not know his mothers phone number. I have speed dial on my BlackBerry and I use it every day. But still, it is hard to remember things from a long time ago. A year is a long time to try and remember something. Try remembering something from 3 years, 5 years or even 10 years ago. Almost impossible isn’t it? So, it blew my mind about a week ago when I was reading an article in a trade magazine that said almost 75% of brides do not remember many of the details of their wedding a week later. 75%!

Think about it, this is a day you are spending weeks, if not months, planning every single detail. The flowers, the dress, the food, the music, even the location. All this planning and a vast majority of you will forget it (or most of it) within a week.

“Oh, I have pictures” I heard someone yell out there. Yes, you will have pictures of the day. You will have a lot of pictures of that day and they will bring back a lot of those memories, but look at this:

That is the best wedding dance I have ever seen. It was fun to just watch even though I didn’t know the couple. But, let’s think about something for a minute. What if they didn’t have a video taken of that dance? Mind you the video was from a hand held camcorder and the audio is not very good. But let’s say there was no video of that dance. Do you think the pictures would have captured that moment? Go back and watch the video again but this time hit the pause button at some point. Did you do that? Look at it, that is the only image you would have of that moment and you are going to try and remember the other 7:30 minutes of that dance from just that one picture.

Ok, I know what you are going to say, “my photographer said that they were going to capture all the special moments”. Ok, great, now lets do some math, this will be fun. First a fact, there are 30 frames of video per second. Keep that in mind as we do this together. In that 7:30 minute video there are 450 seconds, multiply that by 30 frames per second and you get 13,500 frames or pictures to get all that moment. That means your photographer would have to shoot 13,500 pictures and you have to store those pictures for the rest of you life to remember that one dance. Not to mention that will be no music or crowd noise in the background to give you that emotion you felt that day.

You see, a professional videographer is going to know how to not only capture that dance you saw, but how to tap into the music and put it on your video so that not only will you see the dance, you will hear the music just they way it was played that day. You will hear every word spoken, every sound right down to the birds singing if you are having an outdoor wedding. You will see your wedding they way all your guests saw your wedding. You will get to relive those moments over and over again for years to come. If you read my post from yesterday, you know that each one of those brides are going to be able to relive that day. They are going to be able to see and remember everything for years and years. So, when someone asks them what they did on their wedding day, all they have to do is pull out their DVD.
